‘Star Wars: Rogue One’: Mads Mikkelsen’s Character Revealed?

Potential spoilers about Star Wars: Rogue One below. You’ve been warned.

Mads Mikkelesen was interviewed by Sky News and you can watch the interview here:

For those that don’t want to watch the full video, Mikkelsen makes a very interesting comment when the interviewer asks how he felt after being approached for a role in the movie directed by Gareth Edwards:

“A little scared. I wasn’t really sure if I was wearing a Stormtrooper outfit or anything like that at that point. I wasn’t sure I could fit into that. I read the script. It was very beautiful. And Felicity [Jones] is playing this lovely, strong woman, and I play her father. And that was too much. I’m sorry.”

Mads Mikkelsen is playing Jyn Erso’s father in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This isn’t the first time Mads may have let details slip. Last fall, he signed a fan’s poster and signed his name and the name “Galen” as well.

Other rumors are that Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer kind of character. Oppenheimer was the father of the atomic bomb, and famously regretted his part in the creation of such a powerful weapon after WWII. It appears that Mikkenlsen’s character has been integral in the design and construction of the Death Star, but as it nears completion he changes his mind and realizes the danger his invention brings to the universe. Does that mean that he helps his daughter Jyn Erson get the Death Star Plans? Did she rebel because of her father’s work? So many interesting questions to be answered, but it definitely adds some very exciting conflict between Jyn and her father. A child feeling let down by their father and ultimately helping them be redeemed? Sounds like a familiar Star Wars theme.

One last thing, the reporter asked Mads if Darth Vader would appear in the movie, and he replied “Yes, I can. But I won’t.” He was a little more careful with this line of questioning, but several different reports have Vader making more than just a cameo. We’ll just have to wait and see.
